South Wales Fishing Society Members and Day Ticket Rules

Definitions and Entitlements

South Wales Fishing Society currently permits the use of lakes/ponds for Coarse Fishing. The Waters are

known as;

a) The Pluck Lake

b) Singleton Lily Pond

c) Clyne Pond

d)Lower Lliw Reservoir

Angling Permits are valid from 1st April to 31st March. The committee reserve the right to alter day tickets or membership entitlements and introduce new membership or permit options at any time subject to an overall committee vote.

“Members season ticket" – Entitles the holder to fish at all Waters (excluding Lower Lliw Reservoir) at all permitted times, in accordance with the rules outlined below and the South Wales Fishing Society governing document.

“Day ticket”: Entitles a non-member to fish at the designated Water(s) during daylight hours ONLY (dawn to dusk) in accordance with the rules outlined below.

“Junior Day Ticket": Entitles a junior non-member (13 and under) to fish at the designated water(s) during daylight hours ONLY (dawn to dusk) in accordance with the rules outlined below.

We will not offer any non-members any permit to fish at night at any waters under any circumstances.

 

General rules for all lakes and members

Rules apply to all members/non-members and guests of South Wales Fishing Society

a valid Angling Permit and Environment Agency rod licence must be carried at all times. 

All members must read the risk assessment documents carried out by the club officials and do their utmost to follow any safety precautions outlined to minimise risks of harm or injury.

No litter or tackle is to be discarded at the waterside. 

No bait is to be taken to the waterside in tins. Reusable containers only

Anglers are responsible for the tidiness of their peg.

The drinking of alcohol whilst fishing is not recommended for safety reasons. Anglers may drink in moderation with their own safety and the consideration of others in mind. Any empty/full cans or bottles of alcohol must not be left on display to the public. The use of illegal substances will not be tolerated.

No angler is to permanently remove any fish from any club water. This WILL result in prosecution.

Club members may use a maximum of 3 rods on all waters or swim.

Non-members are permitted to use 2 rods maximum

Do not leave your rods unattended or more than 20 yards from your rods irrespective of whether you carry a receiver.

All members/ guests must be kind and respectful to all anglers and members of the public as you will be representing the club.

Lakes can and will be closed at short notice for variable periods to allow for spawning and fish recovery throughout the season. during these times there Is to be no fishing on the specified lake under any circumstances (updates will be on our Facebook, website and members will be notified by the bailiff team)

Members are encouraged to participate in the sharing of catches and adding locations in our social media groups online (see rules under other sections regarding pictures and fish handling)

Any abuse to other members or club officials of the club or any other club at the lakes or via social media will not be tolerated and WILL result in a ban being issued.

Not abiding by any of the rules can result in a committee decision to revoke membership without refund and possibly result in a ban as far as a lifetime ban (each case will be dealt with by the committee on a case-by-case basis)

Permits or day tickets are to be carried at all times on the bank as to confirm your membership.

Our bailiffs can perform a rig check at any time at their discretion and if your rig does not conform with our rules you will be asked to change it or leave.

You will have the right to ask anyone claiming to be a bailiff to show you their badge which will contain club details, bailiffs name and a photo for identification

Pluck Lake rules for carp fishing

15lb minimum mainline

maximum length permitted for leadcore is 1ft (rig tubing is preferred)

recognised Drop off lead system only (this includes chod rigs)

Carp care kits to be carried and used if carp fishing (you will be asked to leave without one)

cradles or walled unhooking mats to be used when carp fishing (you will be asked to leave without one)

42" landing nets minimum

Strictly No rods to be left out unattended at any times

Max 3 rods permitted for members and 2 rods maximum for non-members

sacking or retaining of fish is permitted for a maximum of 30 minutes during daylight hours and 1 hour during night time. 

Fish to be lifted no higher than knee-high at any time! 

Particle baits must be prepared correctly (Shop bought preferred)

2.75 test curve “carp” rods or higher preferred

Noise is to be kept to a minimum 

Before lifting any fish from the water it should be checked to make sure that the fins are flat against the body

All rigs are to be “safe rigs” meaning in the event of a crack-off or line break the hook link can easily slide off the mainline/leader.

No braided mainline

Please return the fish as quickly as possible once photos are taken

Always respect other anglers. Please communicate with each other to avoid any issues such as casting over another angler's rigs.

Pluck Lake rules for pike fishing

Only experienced anglers may fish for pike (please get in touch with a club official before fishing for pike)

Anyone who has not fished for pike before or who is under the age of 16 and wants to fish without an adult must first attend one of our tuition courses. Please contact any of the admin or Bailiff team to arrange this.

Juniors must be accompanied by an adult (who must be an experienced predator angler)

1 rod only when dead/live bait fishing

never leave your rod unattended. 

Live baiting is permitted if caught from the water you intend to use for pike (roach and rudd only). No live/non-shop bought bait fish to be brought onto the fishery (anyone found bringing live bait onto any club water will be prosecuted for illegal fish movements and banned for life)

Live baits are to be caught one at a time as needed no retaining of live baits is to be carried out.

Do not bring sacks onto the fishery – all fish must be returned to the water immediately after capture

You must have suitable tackle, i.e. carp or pike rods – the use of sea tackle is not permitted

You must have the correct unhooking equipment – a large landing net (minimum 38’’or larger) and large unhooking mat (minimum 38’or larger preferably with a 2” thick bottom and sides) and long forceps – we do not allow gags to be used

Lines must be a minimum of 12lb BS – braided lines may be used provided that you have a minimum of 1m of nylon between the braid and hook link

You must use a recognized wire trace system

Treble hooks for lure/spinner fishing are banned – all hooks must be barbless single hooks, not larger than size 4 – barbed hooks must be completely flattened

Only 1 or 2 hook rigs are allowed; when using double hook rigs, the hooks should not be more than 3” apart and no larger than size 4

All spinners and plugs must be fully barbless with hooks no larger than size 2 – all barbs must be fully flattened, double hooks must be less than 3” apart

we operate an immediate strike rule 

If a fish is deeply hooked and you cannot unhook the fish yourself hold the fish in the water in a landing net and seek the help of a bailiff 

Never weigh or lift a fish by the gills, use a net or weigh sling

When moving fish to and from the water, use a landing net or zipped unhooking mat at all times; never carry the fish unsupported even for short distances

When photographing fish, support the fish over a large unhooking mat, kneel and never stand up with the fish

When returning fish after capture, please support the fish in the water giving it plenty of time to recover before releasing it

Match rules for all lakes

Matches will be arranged on all lakes from time to time at the approval of the committee and will have rules established and announced per event. 

General membership rules will apply to matches and competitions.

Rules for fishing at Clyne and Singleton Lilly Pond 

Fishing only permitted from dawn to dusk on these waters

No litter is to be left at any time please use the bins provided and do not discard any fishing line in the bins (take any used line with you)

An Unhooking matt of some sort will be required to not allow any fish to touch the ground.

A landing net is required to fish these waters.

Keep nets will only be permitted for use during matches.
